Director of Admissions   $250,000 USD/year

Description

The families you engage with don't require additional services. They require someone they trust implicitly.

This position exists at the heart of that trust relationship. You will be the individual families turn to when intuition signals concern, when context is needed, or when something meaningful needs to be shared. Not as a function of the role itself—but because that trust has been genuinely cultivated. How you show up will define their experience of their child's education at one of two Bay Area locations: San Rafael or downtown San Francisco.

Alpha is creating a fundamentally different school model. Students finish core academic requirements in two hours daily through AI-powered platforms, dedicating remaining time to public speaking, critical thinking, and practical execution. No traditional lectures. No filler assignments. Outcomes in the top 1% nationally. Our parent community is discerning, well-counseled, and often initially doubtful. They value clear reasoning over rehearsed messaging.

You will steward that dialogue continuously. Not only during the enrollment phase, but over the course of years. You will discuss AI with fluency—its mechanics, its shortcomings, and its significance—particularly with families who launch companies, back them financially, or demand rigor in all choices. If you lack the capacity for that caliber of dialogue, this role will prove demanding. If you possess it, this becomes among the most intellectually stimulating positions in education.

This is not client servicing. This is sustained trust-building with ultra-high-net-worth families who demand discretion, discernment, and reliability. If that context resonates—and you use AI daily to accelerate thinking, writing, and execution—the scope of this opportunity will be immediately apparent.

What you will be doing

  • Take full ownership of every family relationship on campus, cultivating trust that deepens consistently over time
  • Identify potential issues early and address them with discretion, responsiveness, and solid judgment
  • Remain highly visible during critical touchpoints: morning arrival, afternoon departure, and thoughtfully designed parent gatherings
  • Facilitate continuous, substantive discussions about Alpha's AI-centered approach with highly analytical, technologically sophisticated families
  • Create and iterate on community programming that fosters connection, advocacy, and sustained referral activity

What you will NOT be doing

  • Overseeing admissions pipelines or enrollment metrics—your engagement starts once families have committed
  • Operating primarily from a desk or through email correspondence—this demands consistent in-person presence
  • Using templated responses or avoiding challenging questions about AI or educational philosophy
  • Depending on established frameworks—you will develop structures in areas where none currently exist
  • Viewing families as portfolio entries—this role values discernment over procedural execution

Key responsibilities

Establish and maintain enduring trust with ultra-high-net-worth families, securing long-term retention, advocacy, and sustained confidence in Alpha's AI-driven educational approach.

Candidate requirements

  • Located in or willing to commute daily to San Rafael or San Francisco
  • 5+ years of direct experience working with UHNW individuals or families in contexts such as private schools, private equity, family offices, or premium client service settings
  • Demonstrated ability to manage intricate, high-stakes relationships with discretion and reliable judgment
  • Regular, daily engagement with AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity) and the capacity to articulate AI strengths, vulnerabilities, and boundaries clearly
  • Commanding presence and communication approach that builds credibility with highly educated, exacting families
  • Knowledge of private or independent school environments, gained professionally or through personal experience
  • Flexibility for early morning, late afternoon, and occasional evening or weekend commitments

Nice to have

  • Pre-existing connections within Bay Area private school or UHNW networks
  • Background working alongside founders, investors, or technology executives
  • Demonstrated success building communities or programming that generates organic referrals
  • Experience in early-stage or rapidly scaling organizations characterized by significant ambiguity
  • Skill in converting complex technical subjects into clear, assured dialogue
