Principal Software Engineer   $100,000 USD/year

Description

This position is designed for an experienced engineer who values ownership, strategic impact, and solving sophisticated technical problems. You will be responsible for developing critical product features, guiding technical strategy, and maintaining long-term system resilience and scalability. The technical choices you make will have direct consequences for the product and its user base, providing you with both the freedom to explore innovative solutions and the accountability to execute effectively.

The products you'll contribute to are reshaping educational experiences:

  • TeachTap: Uses AI to animate historical figures within a TikTok-style learning platform.
  • TeachTales: Delivers personalized, immersive storytelling designed to enhance student comprehension.
  • TimeBack: Functions as a proactive learning assistant, embedding into existing tools to coach students.
  • Athena: Generates AI-powered videos and assessments to produce quantifiable learning results.

Your role will center on advancing the technical architecture of these products, guaranteeing they remain scalable, maintainable, and dependable over time. Working in close partnership with product stakeholders, you will convert strategic requirements into sound technical designs and navigate intricate challenges without compromising quality. The decisions you make will define the trajectory of the product and affect how thousands of learners engage with educational content.

We emphasize deliberate planning and architecture-first thinking. Our AI-driven workflows handle repetitive tasks, allowing you to concentrate on critical decisions and creative problem-solving. You will enjoy substantial autonomy and the opportunity to steer product direction while prioritizing sustainable growth and system integrity.

If you are prepared to guide the technical transformation of SaaS platforms and harness generative AI to expand what's possible, we want to connect with you.

What you will be doing

  • Feature Development: Architecting and building new capabilities with a focus on long-term maintainability, scalability, and meaningful product impact.
  • Requirement Engineering: Partnering with product teams to clarify specifications and guiding technical conversations to ensure alignment between features and strategic objectives.
  • Operations and Maintenance: Overseeing product reliability, optimizing performance, and identifying potential issues before they affect users.
  • Technical Design: Executing high-stakes architectural decisions that shape user experience and system scalability.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Jumping between short-lived initiatives or pursuing trendy technologies without strategic justification.
  • Contributing to internal IT infrastructure or third-party contract work with limited end-user relevance.
  • Spending excessive time in meetings or managing routine infrastructure tasks.

Candidate requirements

  • At least 1 year of full-stack development experience, working on front and backend features.
  • At least 2 years as the primary technical contributor for a SaaS product, driving strategic technical decisions.
  • At least 4 years of experience working on actual SaaS products, not outsourcing or internal IT projects.
  • Experience in using generative AI in your day-to-day development work.
