Description

We are seeking Technical Team Leads to own quality and delivery for our application-tier products. You will guide a compact team of 3-5 engineers as they develop educational applications serving thousands of students.

Example products in your scope:

  • Athena: AI-powered video and assessment generation with proven academic impact
  • TeachTap: AI-driven platform bringing historical personalities to life through TikTok-style learning
  • TeachTales: Custom storytelling experiences designed to improve reading comprehension
  • TrashCat: Game-based learning designed to make education enjoyable and interactive

This position balances individual contribution with team leadership: you will spend 50% of your time implementing sophisticated features and 50% mentoring and empowering your engineers. You define quality benchmarks, create architectural patterns, conduct code reviews with an emphasis on education, and facilitate professional growth. Your accountability extends to the team's collective delivery, not solely your personal output.

Expect high autonomy, lean structure, and minimal process overhead. Technical leadership is your domain; people management is handled separately.

What you will be doing

  • Implementing sophisticated features that serve as technical blueprints for the team
  • Conducting pull request reviews with comprehensive, instructional commentary
  • Developing engineers through pair programming and constructive feedback
  • Organizing technical efforts and decomposing product requirements
  • Defining quality expectations and ensuring adherence across the team

What you will NOT be doing

  • Handling personnel matters (recruitment, termination, performance evaluations, career planning)
  • Contributing to platform or infrastructure layers
  • Attending excessive or unproductive meetings
  • Designing architecture without hands-on implementation

Candidate requirements

  • At least 5 years of full-stack development experience
  • At least 2 years in a lead role (reviewing others' work, mentoring engineers, establishing team practices)
  • Track record of shipping SaaS products
  • Experience with AI tools in development workflow
  • Demonstrated ability to help other engineers improve and grow
