Description

We are seeking Technical Team Leads to own quality and delivery across our application-level products. In this role, you will guide a compact team of 3-5 engineers developing educational applications that serve thousands of students.

You may contribute to products such as:

  • Athena: AI-generated videos and assessments that deliver measurable academic results
  • TeachTap: AI-powered platform bringing historical figures to life through a TikTok-inspired learning interface
  • TeachTales: Personalized storytelling experiences designed to enhance comprehension
  • TrashCat: Gamified educational platform that makes learning engaging and enjoyable

This position balances hands-on engineering with leadership: you will dedicate 50% of your time to building sophisticated features and the other 50% to coaching and empowering your team. You define the quality standard, create architectural patterns, conduct code reviews with an instructional mindset, and support engineer development. You own team results, not merely individual contributions.

Lean team structure, substantial ownership, minimal overhead. You provide technical direction; people management is handled separately.

What you will be doing

  • Developing sophisticated features that establish architectural patterns for the team
  • Conducting pull request reviews with comprehensive, instructional commentary
  • Mentoring engineers through pair programming and constructive feedback
  • Orchestrating technical initiatives and decomposing product requirements
  • Defining quality benchmarks and ensuring team adherence

What you will NOT be doing

  • Handling personnel management (recruitment, termination, performance evaluations, career development discussions)
  • Building platform-level infrastructure systems
  • Attending excessive meetings
  • Designing architecture without hands-on implementation

Candidate requirements

  • At least 5 years of full-stack development experience
  • At least 2 years in a lead role (reviewing others' work, mentoring engineers, establishing team practices)
  • Track record of shipping SaaS products
  • Experience with AI tools in development workflow
  • Demonstrated ability to help other engineers improve and grow
