Description

We are seeking Technical Team Leads to own quality and delivery for our application-level products. In this role, you will guide a compact team of 3-5 engineers developing educational applications used by thousands of students.

Potential products include:

  • Athena: AI-powered video and assessment generation delivering quantifiable academic results
  • TeachTap: AI-driven platform animating historical figures in a TikTok-inspired learning format
  • TeachTales: Customized, immersive storytelling designed to improve comprehension
  • TrashCat: Game-based learning that makes education engaging and enjoyable

This is a player-coach position: 50% direct contribution to complex feature development, 50% team coaching and enablement. You define quality benchmarks, create architectural patterns, conduct code reviews with instructional feedback, and support engineer development. You own team results, not solely your individual output.

Lean team structure, substantial ownership, minimal process overhead. You provide technical leadership; people management is handled separately.

What you will be doing

  • Developing complex features that establish patterns for team adoption
  • Conducting PR reviews with comprehensive, instructional feedback
  • Mentoring engineers through pair programming and continuous feedback
  • Organizing technical workstreams and decomposing requirements
  • Defining quality benchmarks and ensuring team adherence

What you will NOT be doing

  • Handling HR functions (recruitment, termination, performance evaluations, career planning)
  • Building platform or infrastructure-level systems
  • Attending excessive meetings
  • Designing architecture without hands-on implementation

Candidate requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of full-stack development experience
  • Minimum 2 years in a leadership capacity (conducting code reviews, mentoring engineers, defining team practices)
  • Proven history of delivering SaaS products
  • Practical experience integrating AI tools into development processes
  • Demonstrated capability in helping engineers develop their skills and advance
