Description

We are seeking Technical Team Leads to ensure quality and delivery across our application-layer products. In this role, you will guide a compact team of 3-5 engineers who develop educational applications serving thousands of students.

Potential products include:

  • Athena: AI-powered videos and assessments that produce measurable learning gains
  • TeachTap: AI-driven platform reviving historical figures in a TikTok-inspired educational format
  • TeachTales: Customized, immersive storytelling designed to enhance reading comprehension
  • TrashCat: Game-based learning that transforms education into an enjoyable, engaging experience

This position functions as a player-coach: half your time spent hands-on developing sophisticated features, half dedicated to mentoring and empowering your team. You define quality expectations, introduce architectural patterns, conduct code reviews emphasizing instruction, and foster engineer development. Team results fall under your accountability, extending beyond personal contributions.

Lean team structure, substantial ownership, minimal administrative overhead. Your focus is technical leadership; people management responsibilities belong elsewhere.

What you will be doing

  • Developing sophisticated features that establish technical patterns for the team
  • Conducting PR reviews with comprehensive, instructional commentary
  • Mentoring engineers via pair programming and constructive feedback
  • Orchestrating technical workstreams and decomposing requirements
  • Defining quality benchmarks and verifying team adherence

What you will NOT be doing

  • Handling HR functions (recruitment, termination, performance evaluations, career development discussions)
  • Building platform-layer infrastructure
  • Spending hours in continuous meetings
  • Designing architecture without hands-on implementation

Candidate requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of full-stack development experience
  • Minimum 2 years in a technical lead capacity (code review responsibilities, engineer mentorship, team practice establishment)
  • Proven history of delivering SaaS products
  • Practical experience integrating AI tools into development processes
  • Verifiable success helping engineers enhance their skills and advance professionally
