Description

We are seeking Technical Team Leads to ensure quality and on-time delivery for our application-level products. In this role, you will guide a compact team of 3-5 engineers as they develop educational applications serving thousands of students.

You may contribute to products such as:

  • Athena: AI-powered video and assessment tools that produce measurable learning gains
  • TeachTap: An AI platform that resurrects historical figures in a TikTok-inspired educational format
  • TeachTales: Customized, engaging narrative experiences designed to improve reading comprehension
  • TrashCat: Game-based learning that transforms education into an enjoyable, interactive activity

This position combines hands-on technical work with team enablement: you will spend approximately 50% of your time implementing challenging features and 50% mentoring and supporting your engineers. You define quality expectations, create reusable patterns, conduct code reviews with instructional intent, and foster engineer development. Your accountability extends to the entire team's output, not solely your individual contributions.

You will work in a lean environment with substantial ownership and minimal administrative overhead. Technical leadership is your domain; people management responsibilities rest elsewhere.

What you will be doing

  • Implementing challenging features that serve as models for team execution
  • Conducting pull request reviews with thorough, instructional commentary
  • Developing engineers through pair programming and targeted feedback
  • Organizing technical efforts and decomposing feature specifications
  • Defining quality benchmarks and ensuring adherence across the team

What you will NOT be doing

  • Handling personnel management (recruitment, termination, performance evaluations, career planning)
  • Contributing to platform or infrastructure-layer systems
  • Attending prolonged or excessive meetings
  • Designing architecture in isolation without hands-on implementation

Candidate requirements

  • At least 5 years of full-stack development experience
  • At least 2 years in a lead role (reviewing others' work, mentoring engineers, establishing team practices)
  • Track record of shipping SaaS products
  • Experience with AI tools in development workflow
  • Demonstrated ability to help other engineers improve and grow
