Description

We're seeking Technical Team Leads to own quality and delivery for our application-layer products. You will guide a compact team of 3-5 engineers as they develop educational applications reaching thousands of students.

Product areas you may contribute to:

  • Athena: AI-generated video content and assessments producing measurable learning gains
  • TeachTap: AI-powered platform recreating historical figures in a TikTok-style educational format
  • TeachTales: Customized, immersive storytelling designed to improve reading comprehension
  • TrashCat: Game-based learning experiences that make education enjoyable and motivating

This position blends individual contribution with leadership: approximately 50% of your time building sophisticated features, and 50% mentoring and empowering your team. You define quality expectations, create reusable patterns, conduct code reviews with an emphasis on teaching, and support engineer development. You are responsible for collective team results, not solely your individual output.

Lean team structure, substantial ownership, minimal process overhead. You provide technical direction; people management is handled separately.

What you will be doing

  • Implementing sophisticated features that serve as reference patterns for the team
  • Conducting pull request reviews with comprehensive, instructional commentary
  • Developing engineers through pair programming and constructive feedback
  • Organizing technical efforts and decomposing product requirements
  • Defining quality benchmarks and ensuring consistent adherence across the team

What you will NOT be doing

  • Handling personnel management (recruitment, termination, performance evaluations, career planning)
  • Building platform-level infrastructure components
  • Attending continuous meeting cycles
  • Designing architecture without hands-on implementation

Candidate requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of full-stack development experience
  • Minimum 2 years in a technical leadership capacity (conducting code reviews, mentoring engineers, defining team standards)
  • Proven history of delivering SaaS products to production
  • Practical experience integrating AI tools into development processes
  • Confirmed capability to elevate the skills and performance of fellow engineers
