Description

We are seeking Technical Team Leads to oversee delivery and quality across our application-level products. In this role, you will guide a compact team of 3-5 engineers who develop educational applications serving thousands of students.

Example products in your scope:

  • Athena: AI-powered video and assessment generation delivering quantifiable learning results
  • TeachTap: An AI platform that recreates historical figures in a TikTok-inspired educational format
  • TeachTales: Adaptive, immersive storytelling designed to improve reading comprehension
  • TrashCat: Game-based learning that transforms education into an engaging experience

This position balances two responsibilities equally: 50% direct technical contribution on sophisticated features, 50% mentorship and team enablement. You define quality expectations, create architectural patterns, conduct code reviews with an instructional lens, and foster engineer development. Team results are your responsibility, extending beyond personal output.

Lean team structure, substantial ownership, minimal process overhead. Technical leadership is your domain; people management falls to another function.

What you will be doing

  • Developing sophisticated features that establish technical direction for your team
  • Conducting PR reviews with comprehensive, instructional commentary
  • Mentoring engineers via pair programming and constructive feedback
  • Orchestrating technical initiatives and decomposing product requirements
  • Defining quality benchmarks and enforcing adherence across the team

What you will NOT be doing

  • Handling personnel matters (recruitment, termination, performance evaluations, career planning)
  • Building platform or infrastructure-layer systems
  • Attending excessive meetings
  • Designing architecture without hands-on implementation

Candidate requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of full-stack development experience
  • Minimum 2 years in a leadership capacity (conducting code reviews, mentoring engineers, defining team standards)
  • Proven history of delivering SaaS products to production
  • Practical experience integrating AI tools into development processes
  • Verified capability in elevating other engineers' skills and performance
