Youth Development Specialist   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • In-person role based in Brownsville, TX (relocation support provided)
  • $100,000 annual salary paid weekly, plus health benefits

Most educators burn their energy battling bureaucracy. Drafting lesson plans that go unread. Enduring faculty meetings that produce no change. You recognized years ago that wasn't the real work. The real work is the student sitting in front of you.

At Alpha, academic instruction is delivered through software. Adaptive applications guide each student through content at an individualized pace. No traditional lectures, no homework assignments, no grading papers. This structure allows you to focus on what genuinely transforms lives: facilitating life skills workshops where high schoolers develop public speaking ability, learn concentration techniques, and practice giving and receiving constructive feedback—then providing one-on-one coaching to maintain their motivation and help them reach learning milestones. You'll spend half your time facilitating group sessions. The other half you'll spend in direct conversation with individual students, analyzing their Coachbot data to pinpoint exactly where obstacles exist and why.

Students complete a mastery-based assessment following each workshop. Over 90% should consistently rate your sessions positively. 100% should demonstrate advancement in their learning applications. These aren't stretch goals; they define the standard. Maintaining high expectations communicates your belief in their capacity to succeed. Through this process, you'll develop expertise in creating workshops that teenagers actively want to attend, gain fluency with advanced learning technology, and forge meaningful relationships with students and their families. Our Brownsville location neighbors SpaceX. Where educational innovation intersects with aerospace exploration, you'll deliver on Alpha's fundamental commitment: students who enjoy school, learn at twice the typical rate, and acquire practical, applicable skills. If you've been searching for an educational environment aligned with your vision of how school should function, you've found it.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for high school students covering subjects such as public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback exchange, followed by mastery evaluation through structured Test2Pass assessments
  • Conducting daily individual motivation sessions where you use Coachbot analytics to engage with students personally, diagnose learning app obstacles, and help them work through resistance
  • Collaborating with students to develop personalized motivational approaches, including reward systems and incentives that encourage independent progress in their academic applications
  • Examining curriculum materials and session plans prior to delivery, then adjusting your approach based on real-time assessment of group dynamics

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering academic content instruction. Mathematics, literacy, and all other subjects are taught through software.
  • Overseeing school operations or supervising staff. No budget responsibilities, no recruitment duties, no operational meetings; your complete attention remains on your student cohort.
  • Enforcing discipline through conventional authority structures. No detention assignments, no suspension decisions, no "because I said so" justifications. You establish a respectful, energized culture through reasoning and positive reinforcement.

Key responsibilities

Develop a cohort of high school students who enjoy the educational experience, achieve 2x accelerated learning through adaptive software platforms, and show mastery of practical life skills applicable beyond the classroom.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any field
  • 3+ years of direct experience working with high school students (ages 13-18)
  • Willingness to work on-site in Brownsville, TX (relocation support available)
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

Nice to have

  • Experience as a sports coach, camp counselor, or youth program coordinator who has successfully motivated adolescents in non-traditional classroom settings
  • Demonstrated history of guiding groups to achieve quantifiable objectives (completion metrics, performance standards, behavioral improvements)
  • Familiarity with adaptive learning systems or educational technology platforms
  • Strong narrative skills that command teenage audiences' attention, presented with cultural sensitivity and authentic connection
