Guide - Brownsville   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site at the Alpha School campus in Brownsville, TX
  • $100,000/year W2 salary, paid weekly. Day-one health benefits.
  • Relocation support for a one-school-year campus commitment

You've spent years coaching kids — not teaching them. You know the difference: a coach connects, challenges, and refuses to let a student settle for less than their best. A teacher delivers content. You've never been a content delivery system.

Alpha runs the most unconventional school you've ever seen. Students don't sit in rows being lectured. They advance through AI-powered learning apps at their own pace. AI handles the instructional content. Your job is to run life skills workshops that hold a room of K-8 students' attention, run motivation sessions that get them to hit their weekly learning goals, and hold the line when a student wants to coast. The academics take care of themselves. You handle the human part.

This role has a ceiling worth aiming at, and the ceiling is deeper student impact. Those who consistently hit their numbers (100% of cohort meeting weekly app goals, 90%+ satisfaction scores) grow into Lead Guide roles where they coach other educators on how to do this work better. Students stay the point.

The campus is in Brownsville, next door to SpaceX's Starbase. If your reason to leave your current job is the mission — changing what a kid believes about themselves — not the line on your resume, apply.

What you will be doing

  • Running one-hour life skills workshops with K-8 students covering public speaking, focus, and giving and receiving feedback
  • Delivering Test2Pass mastery assessments after each workshop to confirm students have genuinely learned the skill, not just sat through it
  • Running daily motivation sessions using student profiles, interests, and Coachbot analytics to get 100% of your cohort hitting their weekly app advancement goals
  • Applying storytelling, incentives (school currency, leaderboards), and personal connection to push past student resistance
  • Tracking cohort satisfaction scores toward a 90%+ target on student surveys

What you will NOT be doing

  • Standing at a board and lecturing. Students advance academically through self-guided AI-powered apps, not through instruction from you.
  • Babysitting. Kids on computers is the setting; active engagement is the job.
  • Lowering the bar when students push back. Test2Pass standards hold, regardless of whether a student is having a hard week.
  • Inventing curriculum from scratch. Lesson plans and workshop playbooks are provided; your job is to deliver them with the presence and storytelling skill that makes students actually absorb the material.
  • Managing parents, running admissions, or overseeing campus operations. That's a different role.

Key responsibilities

Coach a cohort of K-8 students to meet 100% of their weekly academic goals while delivering life skills workshops with 90%+ satisfaction scores.

  • Legal right to work in the US without visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Background as an athletic coach, camp counselor, or youth program facilitator
  • Track record of high performance in a competitive environment (academic, athletic, or professional)
  • Experience working in a self-directed or app-based learning environment
