Description

Most social studies curriculum work stops at creating lessons, prompts, and assessments. This role goes further: you will use AI and student learning data to find where students are getting stuck, rebuild the learning experience, and measure whether mastery improves.

At 2 Hour Learning, the goal is not prettier worksheets or broader coverage. The goal is faster mastery of social studies, shown through growth on assessments like MAP, AP, SAT, and other subject-relevant measures. That means diagnosing the root cause behind weak historical reasoning, shaky chronology, unclear civics concepts, geography gaps, or economics misconceptions, then using AI tools to redesign the curriculum, scaffolds, practice sequences, interventions, and assessments that caused the problem.

You will work hands-on with LLMs, AI-assisted workflows, student performance data, assessment results, and student work. One week may involve finding why students miss cause-and-effect questions in a history unit. The next may involve redesigning explanations, distractors, rubrics, or practice sequences so students build real understanding instead of memorizing isolated facts.

If you want to use AI to make social studies learning measurably better at scale, apply now.

What you will be doing

  • Diagnose high-impact social studies learning gaps using student performance data, platform data, assessment results, and student work.
  • Use AI tools, LLMs, no-code workflows, and agentic AI workflows to redesign curriculum, explanations, models, practice sequences, scaffolds, and interventions.
  • Improve questions, prompts, distractors, answer explanations, rubrics, and supporting content so assessments measure mastery, reasoning, and misconceptions rather than recall alone.
  • Check AI-generated or AI-modified materials for factual accuracy, chronological accuracy, rigor, clarity, grade-level fit, and alignment with Alpha’s learning science standards.
  • Iterate on curriculum and assessment improvements based on student learning evidence, content review, and implementation feedback.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Running a traditional curriculum desk where success means lesson completion, textbook coverage, or polished-looking materials.
  • Building educational software products; your focus is improving the learning content, assessments, scaffolds, and interventions students use.
  • Stopping at analysis; you will be responsible for fixing the learning gaps you diagnose.
  • Making curriculum decisions from habit or intuition alone; your changes will be grounded in student data and evidence from student work.
  • Doing broad academic strategy detached from execution; this is hands-on redesign work.

Key responsibilities

Accelerate social studies mastery by using AI and student learning evidence to improve curriculum, assessments, scaffolding, and interventions.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Social Studies, Social Science Education, History, Political Science, Geography, Economics, Civics, Cognitive Science, Instructional Design, or a closely related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in social studies instruction, curriculum development, assessment development, educational content creation, or learning design.
  • Demonstrated K-12 social studies expertise, including historical accuracy, chronology, civics, geography, economics, conceptual sequencing, common misconceptions, and grade-level fit.
  • Practical knowledge of learning science or instructional design principles, such as mastery learning, direct instruction, scaffolding, cognitive load, or retrieval practice.
  • Experience using AI tools to improve education work, such as LLMs, AI-assisted content generation, no-code workflows, agentic AI tools, or coding/API-based tools.
  • Ability to use student learning data, assessment results, and student work to improve curriculum, assessments, scaffolds, or interventions.
  • Clear written communication skills, especially when explaining complex social studies concepts to students or other education stakeholders.

Nice to have

  • Direct experience using LLM APIs for content generation, data analysis, or adaptive learning work in social studies.
  • Experience sharing education, curriculum, learning science, or AI insights through an online community such as X/Twitter, LinkedIn, a newsletter, or a professional knowledge base.
