Long-term role

Youth Program Director   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • Based on-site at Alpha School's campus in Brownsville, TX
  • $100,000 annual W2 salary, distributed weekly. Health benefits begin day one.
  • Relocation assistance available for candidates committing to one full school year on campus

You've invested years coaching young people — not simply instructing them. You understand the distinction: coaching means connecting, challenging, and refusing to allow students to accept anything less than their potential. Instruction is content transfer. You've never functioned as a content transfer mechanism.

Alpha operates a school model unlike any you've encountered. Students don't occupy rows while listening to lectures. They progress through AI-driven learning applications at individualized speeds. AI manages instructional delivery. Your responsibility is facilitating life skills workshops that capture the attention of K-8 students, conducting motivation sessions that drive them toward weekly learning targets, and maintaining standards when a student attempts to disengage. Academic progress handles itself. You manage the human dimension.

This position offers a meaningful ceiling: deeper student impact. Those who reliably achieve performance targets (100% cohort attainment of weekly app goals, satisfaction scores above 90%) advance into Lead Guide positions where they train other educators in these methodologies. Students remain the focus.

The campus sits in Brownsville, adjacent to SpaceX's Starbase facility. If your motivation for leaving your current position centers on mission — transforming what a child believes about their own capabilities — rather than resume enhancement, submit your application.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops with K-8 students addressing topics including public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback exchange
  • Administering Test2Pass mastery assessments following each workshop to verify students have authentically acquired the skill rather than passively attended
  • Conducting daily motivation sessions leveraging student profiles, individual interests, and Coachbot analytics to achieve 100% cohort completion of weekly app advancement targets
  • Utilizing storytelling techniques, incentive structures (school currency, leaderboards), and interpersonal connection to overcome student resistance
  • Monitoring cohort satisfaction scores with a target of 90%+ on student surveys

What you will NOT be doing

  • Presenting lectures at a whiteboard. Students progress academically via self-directed AI-powered applications, not through direct instruction from you.
  • Providing passive supervision. Students working on computers describes the environment; active engagement defines the role.
  • Reducing expectations when students resist. Test2Pass standards remain consistent, independent of whether a student faces a challenging week.
  • Creating curriculum from the ground up. Lesson frameworks and workshop guides are supplied; your responsibility is executing them with the storytelling ability and presence that ensures students genuinely internalize the content.
  • Handling parent relations, conducting admissions processes, or supervising campus operations. Those functions belong to a separate role.

Key responsibilities

Guide a cohort of K-8 students to achieve 100% of weekly academic objectives while facilitating life skills workshops that maintain 90%+ satisfaction scores.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 (elementary and middle school) students
  • Strong storytelling and facilitation presence — capable of maintaining a room of children engaged for one hour
  • Available to work on-site at the Alpha campus located in Brownsville, TX
  • Legal authorization to work in the US without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Experience as an athletic coach, camp counselor, or youth program facilitator
  • Demonstrated history of high performance in competitive settings (academic, athletic, or professional)
  • Familiarity with self-directed or app-based learning environments
