Learning and Development Manager   $200,000 USD/year

Description

This role is for the academic leader who prefers to design the system rather than critique it from the sidelines. You bring subject-matter fluency sufficient to recognize high-quality learning, the rigor to translate that into rubrics and AI-driven quality mechanisms, and the pragmatism to act decisively on incomplete data. Student improvement is your measure of success, and you are prepared to be evaluated accordingly.

2 Hour Learning is pursuing what few in software or education dare to attempt. There are no teachers. No textbooks. No traditional instruction acting as a safety net beneath the product. AI is the foundation of the operating model. In this position, you apply it to produce and refine learning content, architect interventions, oversee quality standards, and advance the platform's capabilities. The tempo resembles high-performance tech, consulting, or finance more than traditional education, and the reward is complete ownership of a subject's student outcomes across multiple campuses.

This position is about operating a function. You will construct AI-powered enhancements to learning ecosystems, deploy targeted interventions in response to student performance data, generate evidence-backed decision documentation, and lead a team measured against concrete standards tied to MAP, AP, SAT, and ISEE outcomes. You will also collaborate closely with product, engineering, and data science teams to determine the platform's next priorities. It suits someone who defaults to AI, independently conducts analysis, delivers under uncertainty, and takes full ownership of results. It will not suit anyone who values consensus-driven timelines, minimal accountability, or reliance on established systems.

You will serve as a core leader within the academics team, wielding genuine influence over your subject's performance and the evolution of the broader learning system. The team will depend on your standards, your judgment, and your capacity to translate student data into action. If that prospect energizes rather than overwhelms you, this role was designed with you in mind.

What you will be doing

  • Learning Ecosystem Enhancements — AI-powered refinements to subject-specific K–12 learning experiences spanning content, adaptive pathways, and student interventions, shaped by student feedback, analytics, assessments, and coaching observations.
  • Data-Driven Academic Interventions — Focused intervention strategies for students or cohorts falling behind, informed by MAP, AP, SAT, ISEE, and comparable performance metrics.
  • Student Performance Decision Records — Reusable, evidence-grounded documentation of student performance improvement initiatives, backed by dashboards, analytics, support tickets, surveys, coaching interactions, and assessment results.
  • Learning Ecosystem Improvement Specs — Actionable specifications for product, engineering, and data science development, including problem definitions, corroborating evidence, anticipated student impact, and acceptance criteria.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Wrapping traditional education in AI branding. This is not about digitizing classroom instruction – we are rebuilding learning from first principles.
  • Analyzing data without context. You will be expected to engage directly and regularly with K-12 students, treating their feedback as critical input from our customers.
  • Delaying action for consensus. You will advocate for a bold vision and mobilize others through data-driven outcomes.
  • Adhering to conventional methods. You will have the freedom to test innovative approaches to motivation, assessment, and instruction.
  • Treating AI as a threat to education. Here, you will leverage AI as a transformative tool to reinvent learning, not as a risk to manage.

Key responsibilities

Lead innovation in AI-driven, teacher-less education to produce outstanding student results across multiple campuses. Integrate data analytics with consistent student interaction to continually refine our learning ecosystem, measured by AP exam performance and MAP assessment growth.

Candidate requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in Educational Science, Learning Science, Psychology, Psychometrics, Instructional Design, or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in academic or EdTech leadership roles, with direct people management responsibility (hiring, performance evaluation, coaching, termination decisions)
  • Demonstrated experience using AI tools as part of day-to-day professional workflows, and willingness to rely on AI extensively to improve academic and operational outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of learning science principles, such as Cognitive Load Theory and Mayer's Multimedia Principles, and data-driven educational approaches
