Youth Development Manager   $200,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site: Piedmont, CA; Greenwich, CT; Chicago, IL; Bethesda, MD; or New York City, NY (relocation assistance available)
  • $200,000/year, paid weekly | Health, dental, and vision coverage from day one

The most meaningful support you can offer a student who achieves 99% is to withhold calling it 100%. Not out of apathy — but because you know they're capable of reaching it, and lowering expectations is the true disservice. If this reasoning resonates, continue reading. If it feels overly strict, this position will likely frustrate you.

Alpha's students don't passively absorb lectures. They advance through adaptive applications at double the speed of conventional classrooms while simultaneously developing practical life competencies. Your role ensures three core commitments are realized for every child in your group: they develop a genuine love of learning, they progress at 2x the standard rate, and they acquire capabilities that extend beyond any textbook. You will also develop the Guides who execute these same commitments throughout your campus.

Your day begins with analytics. Coachbot data reveals which students are progressing smoothly and which require additional support. By mid-morning you're facilitating a live life skills workshop with your K-8 group, adhering to Alpha's established framework. Post-lunch, you're observing a Guide's session, then providing them with three concrete steps to refine their execution. On certain days you're conducting motivation check-ins, converting leaderboard dynamics and school currency into momentum that re-engages students who've stalled.

You'll witness reserved children present with poise to adults. You'll observe a student who previously "despised school" request to remain after hours. And you'll understand that the standard you maintained is precisely what enabled their success, because upholding expectations is how you demonstrate belief in someone's potential.

If you've broken performance benchmarks, transformed struggling performers into top achievers, and you're prepared to do the same for children, submit your application now.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour live life skills and social-emotional learning (SEL) sessions with K-8 students covering topics such as public speaking and concentration, using Alpha's structured curriculum framework
  • Conducting daily motivation check-ins designed to drive 100% of students toward weekly app objectives through age-suitable incentives including school currency and leaderboards
  • Developing Guides via observation, specific feedback, and direct coaching to ensure they execute workshops with equivalent energy and accuracy
  • Analyzing Coachbot data and student records to pinpoint which individuals require intervention, then providing that support directly
  • Personally mentoring your assigned student cohort, demonstrating the coaching and motivational techniques you expect from all Guides

What you will NOT be doing

  • Creating lesson plans or designing instructional content. Students progress through adaptive apps; your focus is elevating the people who support them.
  • Delivering traditional classroom lectures. You're 80% motivator, 20% content expert; if you prefer standing at a whiteboard, this role isn't the right fit.
  • Accepting compromises when a student is "almost there." 100% mastery defines the standard, and reducing it doesn't constitute support.
  • Spending time in an office processing administrative documents. The majority of your hours are spent directly engaging with students and Guides.
  • Waiting extended periods for performance insights. Results appear in real-time via Coachbot and adjustments occur immediately.

Key responsibilities

Fulfill Alpha's 3 Promises throughout your cohort and among the Guides under your leadership: every child loves school, learns at 2x pace, and develops genuine life skills.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in education, learning and development, coaching, or related area
  • Demonstrated experience creating and executing educational programs, curricula, or training initiatives
  • Proven history of managing a team of 5 or more individuals, including responsibility for hiring and performance-based termination decisions

  • Confidence performing before large groups of children. The presence that commands attention from a room full of 8-year-olds.
