Description

Most curriculum roles in English Language Arts ask you to design lessons, write prompts, and build assessments. This role asks you to leverage AI and student performance data to systematically improve how learners achieve mastery in reading, writing, vocabulary, language, and evidence-based reasoning.

At 2 Hour Learning, students engage with an AI-powered learning model designed to accelerate progress beyond what traditional schooling permits. Your contributions will be embedded within that system. You will identify where learners encounter obstacles, revise the materials that created those barriers, and refine the assessments that validate true mastery. The objective is not to produce polished curriculum documents. The objective is to drive measurable improvement on MAP, SAT, AP, and other ELA-aligned assessments.

This is applied academic design work. You will apply LLMs, AI-enabled tools, no-code workflows, agentic AI systems, and evidence from student work to reconstruct reading activities, writing frameworks, vocabulary lessons, scaffolds, interventions, rubrics, prompts, and quality assurance protocols. You will observe the impact in the data: students reading with greater depth, writing with greater clarity, and mastering language at an accelerated pace.

If you are prepared to use AI to achieve measurably better outcomes in ELA learning, apply now.

What you will be doing

  • Identify persistent ELA learning gaps by analyzing student performance data, platform analytics, assessment outcomes, writing samples, reading responses, and student work artifacts.
  • Apply AI tools and agentic workflows to redesign reading activities, writing supports, explanations, vocabulary lessons, grammar exercises, scaffolds, and targeted interventions.
  • Refine ELA assessments by improving question design, writing prompts, distractor options, rubrics, exemplars, answer explanations, and related instructional content.
  • Review and validate AI-generated or AI-modified materials for clarity, academic rigor, text alignment, grade-level appropriateness, instructional effectiveness, and alignment with Alpha's learning science standards.
  • Leverage student evidence from MAP, SAT, AP, platform performance, and internal assessments to determine which content should be updated, replaced, or fully redesigned.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Creating standalone worksheets, lesson plans, or test prep resources that lack direct ties to student learning evidence.
  • Teaching in a traditional classroom, manually grading essay assignments, or overseeing school administrative functions.
  • Developing education software products. Your focus will be on improving the learning experience, not managing a software development roadmap.
  • Limiting your work to diagnosis. You will be expected to redesign curriculum, scaffolds, assessments, and interventions that address the gaps you identify.
  • Engaging in broad education strategy from a distance. This work is hands-on, subject-focused, and evaluated by student mastery outcomes.

Key responsibilities

Drive measurable ELA mastery by continuously refining reading, writing, language, assessment, scaffolding, and intervention materials informed by student learning evidence.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in English, Literature, Linguistics, Writing, Reading Education, English Education, Instructional Design, Cognitive Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in ELA instruction, literacy curriculum development, assessment creation, educational content design, or learning experience design.
  • Demonstrated K-12 ELA expertise, including competence in evaluating reading comprehension, writing quality, language accuracy, text complexity, instructional sequencing, and grade-level appropriateness.
  • Working knowledge of learning science or instructional design principles, including mastery learning, direct instruction, scaffolding, cognitive load management, and retrieval practice.
  • Experience applying AI tools to enhance educational outcomes, including LLMs, AI-assisted content creation, no-code workflows, agentic AI systems, or coding/API-based tools.
  • Ability to interpret student learning data and student work samples to identify ELA gaps and improve curriculum, assessments, scaffolds, or interventions.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the capacity to convey complex ELA concepts clearly to non-specialist audiences.

Nice to have

  • Direct experience with LLM APIs for content generation, data analysis, adaptive learning systems, or assessment enhancement.
  • Background in edtech, adaptive learning platforms, literacy assessment tools, or AI-supported academic design.
  • Experience cultivating an online audience or public knowledge resource focused on literacy, writing, education, or AI.
