Description

Most ELA curriculum positions center on lesson creation, prompt writing, and assessment authoring. This role centers on using AI and student performance data to systematically enhance how learners achieve mastery in reading, writing, vocabulary, language, and evidence-based reasoning.

At 2 Hour Learning, students engage with an AI-powered learning model designed to accelerate progress beyond what traditional schooling permits. Your contributions will be embedded in that system. You will identify where learners encounter obstacles, redesign materials that contribute to those gaps, and refine assessments that verify authentic mastery. The aim is not polished curriculum deliverables. The aim is quantifiable improvement on MAP, SAT, AP, and other ELA-aligned assessments.

This is applied academic design work. You will leverage LLMs, AI-enabled tools, no-code systems, agentic AI workflows, and evidence from student work to reconstruct reading activities, writing supports, vocabulary instruction, scaffolds, interventions, rubrics, prompts, and content quality protocols. You will observe results in the data: students engaging more deeply with texts, writing with greater clarity, and mastering language at an accelerated pace.

If you are prepared to apply AI toward measurably better ELA learning outcomes, apply now.

What you will be doing

  • Identify recurring ELA learning gaps by analyzing student performance data, platform metrics, assessment outcomes, writing samples, reading responses, and completed student work.
  • Apply AI tools and agentic workflows to redesign reading activities, writing supports, instructional explanations, vocabulary lessons, grammar exercises, scaffolds, and intervention materials.
  • Refine ELA assessments by improving question design, writing prompts, distractor options, rubrics, exemplars, answer explanations, and related instructional content.
  • Verify AI-generated or AI-modified content for clarity, rigor, text alignment, grade-level appropriateness, instructional effectiveness, and consistency with Alpha's learning science standards.
  • Leverage student evidence from MAP, SAT, AP, platform analytics, and internal assessments to determine which content requires updating, replacement, or complete redesign.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Creating standalone worksheets, lesson plans, or test prep resources disconnected from student learning evidence.
  • Operating a traditional classroom, manually grading essays in volume, or overseeing school operations.
  • Developing education software products. You will enhance the learning experience, not oversee a software roadmap.
  • Limiting your work to diagnosis. You will be expected to redesign curriculum, scaffolds, assessments, and interventions that resolve the gaps you identify.
  • Conducting broad education strategy from a distance. This work is hands-on, subject-focused, and evaluated by student mastery outcomes.

Key responsibilities

Drive measurable ELA mastery by continuously refining reading, writing, language, assessment, scaffolding, and intervention materials grounded in student learning evidence.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in English, Literature, Linguistics, Writing, Reading Education, English Education, Instructional Design, Cognitive Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in ELA instruction, literacy curriculum development, assessment development, educational content creation, or learning design.
  • Proven K-12 ELA expertise, including the capacity to assess reading comprehension, writing quality, language accuracy, text complexity, sequencing, and grade-level appropriateness.
  • Working knowledge of learning science or instructional design principles, such as mastery learning, direct instruction, scaffolding, cognitive load, and retrieval practice.
  • Experience applying AI tools to enhance educational work, including LLMs, AI-assisted content generation, no-code workflows, agentic AI tools, or coding/API-based tools.
  • Capability to analyze student learning data and student work to diagnose ELA gaps and refine curriculum, assessments, scaffolds, or interventions.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the capacity to convey complex ELA concepts clearly to non-specialist audiences.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on LLM API experience for content generation, data analysis, adaptive learning, or assessment refinement.
  • Background in edtech, adaptive learning platforms, literacy assessment, or AI-supported academic design.
  • Experience developing an online audience or public knowledge base focused on literacy, writing, education, or AI.
