Preschool Teacher   $120,000 USD/year

Description

Outstanding preschool teachers don't require rigid curricula. They require a school that values their professional judgment.

If you're an educator who views play as meaningful work, prioritizes relationships over rote academics, and sees every moment as a chance for development, Alpha is where you belong.

This is a full-time, in-person position in Manhattan, where you'll lead a Pre-K classroom focused equally on emotional security, curiosity, and observable developmental progress. You'll create engaging, play-based learning environments that foster confidence, resilience, foundational literacy and numeracy skills, and a lasting enthusiasm for discovery. We seek educators who understand that excellent preschool education isn't simply supervision—it's the groundwork for all future learning.

Alpha is transforming education by enabling students to achieve academic mastery more efficiently, freeing time to cultivate the essential life skills that matter equally. This mission starts in Pre-K with exceptional teachers who understand how to make play intentional and purposeful.

We anticipate hiring candidates from throughout the New York metropolitan region. If you're a talented educator interested in relocating closer to the city, relocation support is available.

If you've been seeking a school that recognizes early childhood education as a serious profession—not merely a career transition—submit your application today.

What you will be doing

  • Develop engaging, sensory-rich learning environments that deliberately support early literacy, numeracy, self-regulation, and social-emotional growth.
  • Build a classroom culture where each child feels emotionally secure, truly understood, and eager to attend school daily.
  • Monitor children's development continuously, record significant progress, and apply these observations to tailor instruction.
  • Modify activities based on individual children's interests and developmental stages, ensuring every learner achieves measurable advancement.
  • Collaborate actively with families to communicate progress, recognize achievements, and extend each child's learning beyond school hours.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Overseeing children without intentional developmental goals guiding each activity.
  • Implementing scripted curricula, depending on worksheets, or prioritizing compliance over genuine curiosity.
  • Spending your time controlling behavior instead of teaching children emotional self-regulation skills.
  • Placing children in front of digital learning programs while you observe passively from a distance.

Key responsibilities

Build a Pre-K classroom environment where each child cultivates an enduring passion for learning while achieving outstanding progress across the developmental foundations essential for lifelong success.

Candidate requirements

  • Available to work full-time, in-person in Manhattan, New York City (relocation support provided)
  • Hold an associate's degree or higher, or possess any U.S. state teaching license or certification
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working with children ages 3-5 in a structured, play-based classroom or group environment
  • Prior experience recording developmental milestones through a structured framework or assessment tool (Teaching Strategies GOLD, ASQ, HighScope COR, etc.)
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Background in a Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Bank Street, or similar inquiry-driven early childhood program
  • Experience working in an independent school or academically rigorous preschool setting
  • Knowledge of child-development frameworks, observation methodologies, or portfolio-based assessment practices
  • Experience modifying play-based activities to align with individual interests, needs, and developmental objectives
