Preschool Lead Teacher   $120,000 USD/year

Description

Exceptional preschool educators don't require a curriculum script. They require a school that values their professional judgment.

If you're an educator who understands that play is purposeful work, that relationships precede academics, and that every moment holds potential for development, Alpha is where you belong.

This full-time, on-site position in Manhattan places you at the helm of a Pre-K classroom where emotional security, intellectual curiosity, and measurable developmental outcomes hold equal weight. You'll craft engaging, play-centered experiences that support children in developing confidence, resilience, foundational literacy and numeracy skills, and authentic enthusiasm for learning. We seek educators who recognize that excellent preschool education is not childcare—it is the groundwork for all future learning.

Alpha is transforming education by enabling students to achieve academic mastery more efficiently, freeing time to cultivate the essential life competencies that matter equally. This vision starts in Pre-K with outstanding teachers who understand how to transform play into intentional learning.

We anticipate hiring from throughout the New York metro area. If you're a remarkable educator interested in relocating closer to the city, we offer relocation assistance.

If you've been seeking a school that honors early childhood education as a career—not a temporary position—submit your application today.

What you will be doing

  • Craft engaging, sensory-rich learning experiences that deliberately foster early literacy, numeracy, self-regulation, and social competencies.
  • Build a classroom environment where each child feels emotionally secure, individually understood, and enthusiastic about attending school daily.
  • Monitor children's development continuously, record significant progress, and apply these observations to individualize instruction.
  • Modify activities based on each child's interests and developmental readiness, ensuring every learner achieves measurable growth.
  • Collaborate actively with families to communicate development, recognize achievements, and extend each child's learning beyond school hours.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Overseeing children without intentional developmental objectives guiding each activity.
  • Implementing scripted curriculum, depending on worksheets, or prioritizing compliance over curiosity.
  • Dedicating your day to behavior management instead of supporting children in building emotional self-regulation.
  • Placing children before academic technology while you observe passively from a distance.

Key responsibilities

Establish a Pre-K classroom environment where each child cultivates an enduring passion for learning while achieving outstanding progress across the developmental foundations that determine long-term success.

Candidate requirements

  • Available to work full-time, on-site in Manhattan, New York City (relocation assistance is available)
  • Hold an associate's degree or higher, or possess any U.S. state teaching license or certification
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children ages 3-5 in a structured, play-based classroom or group environment
  • Demonstrated experience documenting developmental milestones through a structured framework or assessment tool (Teaching Strategies GOLD, ASQ, HighScope COR, etc.)
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Background in a Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Bank Street, or other inquiry-driven early childhood program
  • Experience working in an independent school or academically rigorous preschool setting
  • Knowledge of child-development frameworks, observation methodologies, or portfolio-based assessment practices
  • Experience tailoring play-based activities to match individual interests, needs, and developmental objectives
