VP of Campus Operations   $200,000 USD/year

Description

You step onto a campus and immediately notice what others miss — the ceiling tile hanging at an angle, the HVAC unit making noise for days, the landscape contractor who completed half the scope yet submitted a full invoice. You don't wait for complaints to surface. You resolve issues before they become visible problems.

That awareness defines this role. 2 Hour Learning runs high-caliber K–12 campuses where families expect an environment that is secure, reliable, and presentation-ready every day — not reserved for special occasions. You will uphold that expectation across the Northeast: Manhattan serving as your home base, with consistent travel to locations in CT, MA, and PA. Your oversight determines whether a campus maintains its premium standard or slowly deteriorates between leadership reviews.

Year one emphasizes establishing standards and vendor accountability — defining operational readiness, implementing audit protocols, removing underperforming contractors, and training Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists on repeatable systems. As the region expands and your framework matures, the position evolves into sustained regional management: you become the operational authority the organization relies on during new launches, crisis response, or standard revision.

This is a hands-on field position. If you prefer remote management via dashboards, this role isn't suitable. If you want direct control over whether 25+ schools maintain premium standards daily — and the authority to execute that vision — continue reading.

What you will be doing

  • Executing scheduled on-site evaluations across Northeast locations against documented benchmarks for cleanliness, HVAC performance, safety protocols, security measures, signage, grounds maintenance, furnishings, and presentation readiness — and converting observations into confirmed corrective actions
  • Prioritizing facility incidents and urgent situations, coordinating contractor response, and closing work orders only after verification of completed repairs (urgent within 24 hours, standard within 1 week)
  • Overseeing local contractor compliance with service agreements, terminating relationships with consistently underperforming vendors, renegotiating contract terms, and conducting direct accountability discussions regarding quality and pricing
  • Establishing a weekly operational cadence with Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists to ensure consistent execution of standard procedures across all locations
  • Overseeing significant campus improvement projects (HVAC system upgrades, interior design updates, landscaping enhancements, AV/network infrastructure) delivered on time and within budget, minimizing student impact
  • Documenting enterprise-wide operational standards and AI-powered procurement frameworks (utilizing ticketing platforms, IoT/predictive maintenance systems, and centralized vendor management) to ensure consistency across all current and future campuses
  • Delivering concise weekly written updates covering regional quality metrics, vendor performance tracking, escalated issues, and capital expenditure variance analysis

What you will NOT be doing

  • Operating remotely through dashboards — this position demands regular on-site presence at Manhattan headquarters plus 20–40% travel to regional campuses (CT, MA, PA)
  • Leading new campus design or managing ground-up construction projects — capital expansion initiatives are handled by a separate team
  • Developing company-wide procurement policy disconnected from operational reality — your standards emerge from direct site observation
  • Working within clean organizational hierarchies with direct authority over all stakeholders — you'll create accountability through documentation clarity, systematic written follow-through, and rejection of ambiguous vendor commitments
  • Tolerating "presentation-ready only for leadership visits" as acceptable practice — persistent problems are investigated for root causes, not simply re-logged
  • Defaulting to reactive crisis management — the audit schedule and predictive maintenance tools exist to identify failures before they generate complaints

Key responsibilities

Maintain every Northeast region campus in a condition that is safe, premium-quality, and presentation-ready on a daily basis.

Candidate requirements

  • Located in New York City or within commutable distance, prepared to work primarily from the Manhattan campus with 20–40% regional travel requirements
  • Authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
  • 5+ years managing multi-location facilities, regional operations, hospitality management, retail operations, or educational facility operations
  • Documented success holding vendor-managed service providers accountable for quality standards, cost management, and service level agreement compliance across multiple sites
  • Hands-on experience addressing urgent facility challenges (safety incidents, HVAC failures, security issues, cleanliness standards) with measurable impact on customer experience
  • Established written operational discipline: incident tracking, escalation documentation, vendor correspondence, weekly regional performance reporting
  • Practical experience with contemporary operations platforms (ticketing systems, IoT/predictive maintenance technology, AI-enhanced procurement or planning tools)

Nice to have

  • Multi-location operations leadership in premium hospitality, high-end retail, private K–12 education, or healthcare systems serving demanding clientele
  • Experience building or rehabilitating a regional operations framework that previously depended on individual heroics instead of documented standards
  • Demonstrated success terminating underperforming vendor relationships and developing a reliable local contractor network
  • Experience directing capital improvement initiatives (HVAC systems, AV/network infrastructure, landscaping, interior renovations) in active, customer-facing facilities
  • Background operating in an AI-integrated environment where automated playbooks, dashboards, and predictive systems handle routine tasks, allowing personnel to focus on strategic judgment
