VP of Field Operations   $200,000 USD/year

Description

You tour a facility and immediately spot the gaps — a ceiling tile out of alignment that no one documented, an HVAC unit making noise for days, a landscaping contractor who delivered half the scope but invoiced the full amount. You don't wait for complaints to surface. You resolve issues before they reach anyone's radar.

That discipline defines this role. 2 Hour Learning runs premium K–12 campuses where families expect an environment that is secure, consistent, and presentation-ready every single day — not only when visitors are scheduled. You will establish and enforce that standard throughout the Northeast: anchored at the Manhattan campus, with recurring site visits to schools across CT, MA, and PA. Your execution determines whether a campus consistently delivers a premium experience or slowly deteriorates between leadership reviews.

Year one emphasizes establishing standards and vendor accountability — defining operational readiness, implementing the audit schedule, replacing underperforming vendors, and training Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists to follow a consistent operating rhythm. As the region expands and your systems mature, the role evolves into steady-state regional oversight: you become the operator the organization depends on when launching a new campus, responding to emergencies, or refining operational standards.

This is a field-based position. If you prefer managing remotely through dashboards, this role is not suitable. If you want direct accountability for ensuring 25+ schools maintain premium standards daily — and the authority to execute on that responsibility — continue reading.

What you will be doing

  • Executing scheduled on-site audits across Northeast campuses against documented standards covering cleanliness, HVAC, safety, security, signage, landscaping, furniture, and presentation-readiness — and ensuring findings convert into confirmed corrective action
  • Responding to facilities issues and emergencies, coordinating vendor response, and closing work orders only after verification of resolution (urgent items <24 hours, standard items <1 week)
  • Overseeing local vendor performance against service-level agreements, terminating vendors with repeated failures, renegotiating contracts, and conducting direct accountability discussions on quality and cost control
  • Establishing a weekly operational cadence with Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists to ensure campuses operate through consistent processes rather than individual heroics
  • Overseeing major campus improvement projects (HVAC replacement, interior updates, landscaping, AV/networking) delivered on time and within budget, minimizing student disruption
  • Documenting global operating standards and AI-enabled procurement systems (leveraging ticketing platforms, IoT/predictive maintenance tools, and centralized sourcing) to ensure consistency across every campus launch and operation
  • Delivering concise weekly written reports on regional quality metrics, vendor performance, escalations, and capital expenditure variance

What you will NOT be doing

  • Operating remotely from dashboards — this position demands consistent physical presence at Manhattan and 20–40% travel to regional campuses (CT, MA, PA)
  • Leading new campus design or managing ground-up construction projects — capital expansion is handled by a separate team
  • Establishing enterprise procurement strategy independently from field operations — your standards emerge from direct site observation
  • Working with clearly defined reporting structures and formal authority over all stakeholders your success depends on — you will drive accountability through documentation, written follow-through, and rejection of ambiguous vendor commitments
  • Accepting "presentation-ready only during leadership visits" as acceptable — recurring problems get root-cause analysis, not repeated ticketing
  • Operating in constant reactive firefighting mode — the audit schedule and predictive maintenance tools exist to identify failures before they generate complaints

Key responsibilities

Maintain every campus in the Northeast region as safe, premium, and presentation-ready every single day.

Candidate requirements

  • Located in New York City or within commuting range, prepared to work primarily from the Manhattan campus with 20–40% regional travel
  • Authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
  • 5+ years of multi-site facilities ownership, regional operations, hospitality operations, retail operations, or school operations
  • Demonstrated success holding vendor-managed services accountable for quality, cost, and SLA compliance across multiple sites
  • Hands-on experience addressing urgent facilities challenges (safety, HVAC, security, cleanliness) with measurable customer-experience outcomes
  • Consistent written operational discipline: issue tracking, escalation documentation, vendor follow-up, weekly regional quality reporting
  • Proven use of modern operations platforms (ticketing systems, IoT/predictive maintenance, AI-assisted procurement or planning)

Nice to have

  • Multi-site operations leadership in premium hospitality, luxury retail, private K–12 schools, or healthcare systems serving demanding clientele
  • Experience building or rehabilitating a regional operations model previously dependent on individual heroics rather than documented standards
  • History of terminating underperforming vendors and rebuilding a reliable local vendor network
  • Experience managing capital improvement projects (HVAC, AV/networking, landscaping, interior renovations) in occupied, customer-facing facilities
  • Background operating in an AI-first environment where playbooks, dashboards, and predictive systems automate routine work so people apply judgment
