Director of Campus Operations   $200,000 USD/year

Description

You conduct a walkthrough and immediately notice what's wrong — the ceiling tile that's loose and unrecorded, the HVAC return that's been making noise for days, the landscaping contractor who billed for incomplete work. You don't wait for feedback from customers. You resolve issues before anyone realizes they existed.

That awareness defines this position. 2 Hour Learning runs high-quality K–12 campuses where families expect an environment that is secure, reliable, and ready for tours every day — not only when events are scheduled. You'll maintain that expectation across the Northeast: Manhattan will be your main location, with frequent visits to schools in CT, MA, and PA. Your efforts determine whether a campus maintains a premium standard or gradually declines between leadership inspections.

The initial year focuses heavily on establishing standards and cleaning up vendor relationships — defining what "ready" means, creating the audit schedule, removing underperforming vendors, and training Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists in a consistent operational routine. As additional schools join the region and your processes mature, the role evolves into ongoing regional oversight: you become the operator the organization turns to when launching a new campus, managing a crisis, or revising a standard.

This is a hands-on position. If you prefer remote management through reports, this isn't the right fit. If you want direct responsibility for ensuring 25+ schools maintain premium quality daily — and the autonomy to deliver it — continue reading.

What you will be doing

  • Performing scheduled on-site inspections at Northeast campuses using documented standards for cleanliness, HVAC, safety, security, signage, landscaping, furniture, and tour-readiness — and converting observations into confirmed corrective actions
  • Prioritizing facilities problems and emergencies, coordinating with vendors, and closing work orders only after confirming resolution (urgent <24 hours, routine <1 week)
  • Overseeing local vendor compliance with SLAs, removing vendors who consistently underperform, renegotiating contracts, and conducting direct accountability discussions on quality and pricing
  • Establishing a weekly operational rhythm with Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists to ensure each campus follows consistent procedures, not improvised solutions
  • Managing significant campus improvement projects (HVAC refreshes, decor upgrades, landscaping, AV/networking) on time and within budget, with minimal student impact
  • Documenting enterprise standards and AI-powered procurement frameworks (via ticketing platforms, IoT/predictive maintenance tools, and centralized sourcing) to ensure uniform campus launch and operations
  • Delivering clear weekly written updates on regional quality, vendor status, escalations, and CapEx tracking

What you will NOT be doing

  • Operating remotely through dashboards — this position demands regular in-person presence at Manhattan and 20–40% travel to regional locations (CT, MA, PA)
  • Leading new campus design or managing ground-up construction projects — capital expansion is handled by a separate team
  • Creating company-wide procurement policy without field input — your standards come from direct site observation
  • Working with clearly defined reporting structures and formal authority over everyone your work depends on — you'll create accountability through clarity, documented follow-through, and pushing back on ambiguous vendor commitments
  • Treating "tour-ready only for leadership visits" as acceptable — persistent problems get root cause analysis, not just re-ticketed
  • Defaulting to reactive crisis management — the audit schedule and predictive maintenance systems exist to identify failures before they generate complaints

Key responsibilities

Maintain every campus in the Northeast region as safe, premium, and tour-ready every day.

Candidate requirements

  • Located in New York City or within commuting range, prepared to work primarily from the Manhattan campus with 20–40% regional travel
  • Authorized to work legally in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
  • 5+ years managing multi-site facilities, regional operations, hospitality operations, retail operations, or school operations
  • Documented success managing vendor-managed services for quality, cost, and SLA performance across multiple sites
  • Hands-on experience addressing urgent facilities challenges (safety, HVAC, security, cleanliness) with measurable customer-experience outcomes
  • Consistent written operational discipline: issue tracking, escalation documentation, vendor communications, weekly regional quality summaries
  • Practical use of current operations platforms (ticketing systems, IoT/predictive maintenance, AI-assisted procurement or planning)

Nice to have

  • Multi-site operations leadership in premium hospitality, luxury retail, private K–12, or healthcare organizations serving demanding clientele
  • Experience building or fixing a regional operations framework where the previous approach depended on individual heroics instead of documented standards
  • History of terminating underperforming vendors and developing a reliable local vendor network
  • Experience directing capital improvement projects (HVAC, AV/networking, landscaping, interior upgrades) in active, customer-facing facilities
  • Familiarity working in an AI-driven operations environment where playbooks, dashboards, and predictive tools handle routine tasks so staff concentrate on decision-making
