VP of Campus Operations   $200,000 USD/year

Description

You tour a facility and immediately notice what's wrong — the ceiling tile that came loose and wasn't reported, the HVAC return making noise for days, the landscaping contractor who delivered half the agreed scope but submitted a full invoice. You don't wait for feedback from a parent. You fix it before it registers as a problem.

That capacity defines this position. 2 Hour Learning runs high-end K–12 facilities where families expect an atmosphere that is secure, reliable, and inspection-ready at all times — not just when guests arrive. You'll uphold that benchmark throughout the Northeast: Manhattan serving as your home base, with consistent travel to locations in CT, MA, and PA. Your execution determines whether a campus maintains its premium quality or quietly deteriorates between leadership reviews.

Year one emphasizes establishing protocols and overhauling vendor relationships — defining what "campus-ready" means, implementing the inspection schedule, removing underperforming contractors, and training Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists to follow a sustainable operational model. As the footprint expands and your systems mature, the focus transitions to sustained regional management: you become the leader the organization calls when launching a new site, handling a crisis, or refining a protocol.

This is an in-person role. If you prefer remote oversight through software, this isn't the right fit. If you want clear responsibility for keeping 25+ schools premium every day — and the mandate to deliver it — continue reading.

What you will be doing

  • Running scheduled physical inspections at Northeast sites using written standards for cleanliness, HVAC performance, safety protocols, security, signage, grounds, furnishings, and visitor readiness — and ensuring identified issues are corrected and confirmed
  • Managing inbound facilities tickets and emergencies, coordinating contractor response, and closing tasks only after on-site verification (urgent items within 24 hours, standard requests within one week)
  • Overseeing local contractor adherence to service agreements, terminating vendors who repeatedly fail, renegotiating contract terms, and conducting direct accountability discussions on deliverables and pricing
  • Establishing a consistent weekly operational cadence with Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists to ensure every location follows structured routines instead of ad-hoc responses
  • Executing significant campus improvement projects (HVAC replacement, interior updates, grounds work, AV and network infrastructure) on time and within budget while minimizing impact on students
  • Documenting enterprise standards and AI-supported procurement frameworks (leveraging ticketing platforms, IoT and predictive maintenance tools, centralized vendor sourcing) to standardize how every campus launches and runs
  • Delivering concise weekly written summaries covering regional quality metrics, vendor accountability, escalated issues, and capital expenditure tracking

What you will NOT be doing

  • Operating remotely via software — the role demands frequent on-site presence in Manhattan and 20–40% travel to schools in CT, MA, and PA
  • Leading greenfield campus design or overseeing new construction projects — capital development is managed by a separate function
  • Defining company-wide procurement policy without grounding it in field operations — your protocols emerge from direct site observation
  • Working within clear organizational hierarchy where everyone you depend on reports directly to you — you'll create accountability through documentation, persistent follow-through, and rejecting ambiguous vendor commitments
  • Tolerating a standard where campuses look good only when executives visit — repeated problems are investigated at the root cause level, not simply re-entered into the system
  • Defaulting to crisis management as the primary operating mode — inspection rhythms and predictive tools exist to surface issues before they escalate to complaints

Key responsibilities

Ensure every Northeast region campus remains safe, premium-quality, and visitor-ready at all times.

Candidate requirements

  • Located in New York City or within commuting range, prepared to work primarily from the Manhattan campus with 20–40% regional travel
  • Authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
  • 5+ years managing multi-location facilities, regional operations, hospitality management, retail operations, or educational campus operations
  • Documented success managing third-party service providers for quality, cost control, and service level compliance across distributed sites
  • Hands-on experience addressing time-sensitive facilities problems (safety hazards, HVAC failures, security issues, sanitation breakdowns) with direct customer experience outcomes
  • Consistent written discipline: maintaining issue logs, escalation documentation, vendor correspondence, and weekly regional performance summaries
  • Working knowledge of current operations platforms (ticketing systems, IoT or predictive maintenance tools, AI-enabled procurement or workflow systems)

Nice to have

  • Regional operations leadership in premium hospitality, high-end retail, independent K–12 schools, or healthcare systems serving discerning clientele
  • Background building or overhauling a regional operations framework that previously depended on individual effort rather than documented processes
  • History of terminating non-performing vendors and developing a reliable local contractor network
  • Experience delivering capital improvement initiatives (HVAC systems, AV and network infrastructure, landscaping, interior renovations) in active, customer-facing settings
  • Familiarity operating in AI-driven environments where automation, dashboards, and predictive analytics handle routine tasks so staff can concentrate on decision-making
