VP of Facilities   $200,000 USD/year

Description

You can walk onto a campus and immediately spot what's wrong—the unlogged ceiling tile hanging loose, the HVAC return that's been making noise all week, the landscaping contractor who submitted a full invoice after completing only half the work. You don't wait for complaints to roll in. You fix the problem before anyone even realizes there was one.

That awareness is what this role demands. 2 Hour Learning runs premium K–12 campuses where families expect an environment that is safe, reliable, and tour-ready every single day—not just when there's an event scheduled. You'll be accountable for that standard throughout Central Texas, with Austin serving as your home base and frequent travel to schools across the region. Your work determines whether a campus maintains its premium feel or quietly deteriorates between leadership check-ins.

Year one will focus heavily on establishing standards and overhauling vendor relationships—defining what "ready" actually means, implementing a consistent audit rhythm, removing underperforming vendors, and training Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists on repeatable operational processes. As additional schools join the network and your systems mature, the role evolves into sustained regional oversight: you'll be the operator the organization turns to when launching a new campus, managing a crisis, or revising an operational standard.

This is a hands-on field position. If you prefer to lead from behind a screen, this isn't the right fit. If you want direct accountability for ensuring that 25+ schools deliver a premium experience daily—and the authority to make it happen—read on.

What you will be doing

  • Performing regular on-site audits at Central Texas campuses using documented standards covering cleanliness, HVAC, safety, security, signage, landscaping, furniture, and tour-readiness—then ensuring corrective actions are completed and verified
  • Responding to facilities issues and emergencies by coordinating vendors and closing tickets only once repairs are confirmed complete (urgent issues within 24 hours, routine matters within one week)
  • Overseeing local vendor performance relative to service-level agreements, removing consistently underperforming vendors, renegotiating contracts, and conducting direct accountability discussions about quality and pricing
  • Establishing a weekly operational cadence with Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists to ensure every campus follows standardized routines instead of relying on ad hoc solutions
  • Overseeing major campus improvement projects (HVAC replacements, interior updates, landscaping overhauls, AV/network upgrades) to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery with minimal student disruption
  • Documenting enterprise-wide standards and AI-supported procurement frameworks (leveraging ticketing platforms, IoT/predictive maintenance tools, and centralized sourcing) to ensure consistent campus launches and operations
  • Delivering clear, written weekly reports covering regional quality metrics, vendor performance, escalated issues, and capital expenditure tracking

What you will NOT be doing

  • Operating remotely from a dashboard—this position demands consistent physical presence at Austin and 20–40% travel to other Central Texas locations
  • Leading new campus design or ground-up construction projects—capital expansion is managed by a separate team
  • Developing company-wide procurement strategy without field input—your standards must be grounded in direct site observation
  • Working with clean organizational charts and direct authority over all stakeholders—you'll enforce accountability through clarity, documented follow-through, and insistence on concrete vendor commitments
  • Tolerating a "tour-ready only when executives visit" mentality—recurring problems will be diagnosed at their root cause, not simply re-reported
  • Defaulting to reactive crisis management—your audit schedule and predictive maintenance systems are designed to identify failures before they generate complaints

Key responsibilities

Maintain every campus in the Central Texas region at a level that is safe, premium, and tour-ready every day.

Candidate requirements

  • Located in or within commuting distance of the Austin, TX metro area, with willingness to work primarily from the Austin campus and travel regionally 20–40% of the time
  • Authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
  • 5+ years of experience managing multi-site facilities, regional operations, hospitality operations, retail operations, or school operations
  • Documented success holding vendor-managed services accountable for quality, cost, and SLA performance across multiple sites
  • Hands-on experience resolving critical facilities problems (safety, HVAC, security, cleanliness) with measurable impact on customer experience
  • Consistent written operational discipline: maintaining issue logs, escalation documentation, vendor correspondence, and weekly regional quality summaries
  • Demonstrated proficiency with contemporary operations platforms (ticketing systems, IoT/predictive maintenance, AI-assisted procurement or planning tools)

Nice to have

  • Leadership experience in multi-site operations for premium hospitality, luxury retail, private K–12 schools, or healthcare organizations serving demanding clientele
  • Background building or rehabilitating a regional operating framework that previously depended on individual heroics instead of documented standards
  • Proven ability to terminate underperforming vendor relationships and develop a reliable local vendor network
  • Experience directing capital improvement initiatives (HVAC, AV/networking, landscaping, interior renovations) in active, customer-facing facilities
  • Familiarity with AI-driven operating environments where automated playbooks, dashboards, and predictive tools handle routine tasks so teams can concentrate on decision-making
