Director of Campus Operations   $200,000 USD/year

Description

You tour a facility and immediately recognize what's wrong — the ceiling tile that's out of place but never reported, the HVAC unit that's been making noise all week, the landscaping contractor who completed only half the checklist yet submitted a full invoice. You don't wait for complaints. You resolve issues before anyone realizes they existed.

That instinct defines this role. 2 Hour Learning runs premium K–12 campuses where families expect an environment that is safe, reliable, and visitor-ready at all times — not only during scheduled events. You will maintain that standard throughout Central Texas: Austin will serve as your home base, supplemented by frequent travel to schools across the region. Your contributions determine whether a campus maintains its premium quality or gradually deteriorates between leadership inspections.

Year one focuses heavily on establishing standards and vendor accountability — defining what "ready" means, implementing audit protocols, removing underperforming vendors, and training Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists to follow consistent operational procedures. As additional schools join the region and your systems mature, the position evolves into sustained regional oversight: you become the authority the network relies on when launching new campuses, managing crises, or refining operational standards.

This is a boots-on-the-ground position. If you prefer remote oversight from a computer, this isn't the right fit. If you want direct responsibility for ensuring 25+ schools maintain premium standards daily — along with the authority to achieve that outcome — continue reading.

What you will be doing

  • Performing scheduled on-site inspections at Central Texas campuses using documented standards covering cleanliness, HVAC systems, safety protocols, security measures, signage, landscaping, furniture condition, and visitor readiness — then converting inspection results into confirmed corrective actions
  • Responding to facilities problems and emergencies, coordinating service providers, and closing work orders only once issues are confirmed resolved (urgent matters within 24 hours, standard requests within 1 week)
  • Overseeing local vendor compliance with service-level agreements, terminating vendors with repeated failures, renegotiating contract terms, and conducting direct accountability discussions regarding quality and pricing
  • Establishing a weekly operational cadence with Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists to ensure every campus follows standardized procedures rather than ad-hoc solutions
  • Overseeing significant campus improvement projects (HVAC replacements, interior upgrades, landscaping enhancements, AV/network installations) delivered on time, within budget, and with minimal student impact
  • Documenting enterprise-wide standards and AI-powered procurement frameworks (leveraging ticketing platforms, IoT/predictive maintenance tools, and centralized purchasing systems) to ensure uniform campus launches and operations
  • Delivering concise weekly written updates on regional facility quality, vendor metrics, escalated issues, and capital expenditure tracking

What you will NOT be doing

  • Operating remotely through dashboards — this position demands consistent physical presence at Austin and 20–40% travel throughout Central Texas locations
  • Directing new campus design or managing ground-up construction projects — capital expansion responsibilities belong to a separate team
  • Developing company-wide procurement policies disconnected from field realities — your standards emerge from direct site observations
  • Working within clean organizational hierarchies with formal authority over all contributors — you'll achieve accountability through documentation clarity, written follow-through, and rejection of ambiguous vendor commitments
  • Treating "visitor-ready only during leadership visits" as acceptable — persistent problems receive root-cause analysis, not repeated work orders
  • Defaulting to reactive emergency response — the inspection schedule and predictive maintenance systems enable you to identify failures before they generate complaints

Key responsibilities

Maintain every Central Texas region campus in a safe, premium, and visitor-ready condition daily.

Candidate requirements

  • Located in the Austin, TX metropolitan area or within commuting range, prepared to work primarily from the Austin campus with 20–40% travel across the region
  • Authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
  • 5+ years managing multi-site facilities, regional operations, hospitality operations, retail operations, or educational operations
  • Demonstrated history of enforcing vendor-managed service accountability for quality standards, cost control, and SLA compliance across multiple sites
  • Hands-on experience addressing urgent facilities challenges (safety concerns, HVAC failures, security incidents, cleanliness issues) with documented customer-experience outcomes
  • Consistent written operational discipline: issue tracking, escalation documentation, vendor correspondence, weekly regional performance reports
  • Verified experience with contemporary operations platforms (ticketing systems, IoT/predictive maintenance technologies, AI-enhanced procurement or planning tools)

Nice to have

  • Multi-site operations leadership within premium hospitality, luxury retail, private K–12 education, or healthcare networks serving demanding clientele
  • Experience creating or rehabilitating regional operating frameworks where previous models depended on individual heroics instead of documented standards
  • History of terminating inadequate vendors and developing a reliable local service provider network
  • Background directing capital improvement initiatives (HVAC systems, AV/network infrastructure, landscaping projects, interior renovations) in active, customer-facing facilities
  • Experience operating in an AI-driven environment where automated playbooks, dashboards, and predictive tools handle routine tasks so personnel concentrate on decision-making
