Life Skills Coach   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site in Houston, TX (support for relocation available)
  • $100,000 annual salary, paid out weekly. Full health, dental, and vision coverage begins day one

The kindest thing you can do for a student who reached 99% of their target is to decline to sign off on it. If that expectation unsettles you, this position won't be a fit. If it energizes you because you understand that upholding standards is how you communicate belief in a student's capacity, read on.

Alpha operates differently than conventional schools. Students complete a full academic day in approximately two hours using adaptive software. No classroom lectures. No physical textbooks. Your role covers what technology cannot: guiding Pre-K through 8th grade students in life skills such as public speaking, concentration, and feedback exchange. Half your time is spent facilitating interactive workshops built on structured playbooks and narrative techniques. The other half involves sitting with students individually or in small groups, analyzing their progress in adaptive learning platforms via Coachbot analytics, and driving them to reach 100% of their weekly objectives. Students demonstrate mastery through Test2Pass evaluations, not attendance or effort grades.

During your first year, you take ownership of a student cohort and internalize Alpha's methodology: life skills workshops, motivational coaching, mastery-driven assessments. Once you demonstrate your ability to hold every student accountable to 100% goal completion while maintaining satisfaction ratings above 90%, advancement to Lead Guide becomes available—a role where you mentor fellow Guides while continuing direct student work. Top performers in this position don't simply impact individual trajectories; they influence campus-wide culture and operations.

If you've invested years in coaching, counseling, or mentoring young people and have longed to eliminate instructional teaching and concentrate entirely on their personal development, this opportunity is for you.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for Pre-K–8 students covering public speaking, focus, collaboration, and feedback practices (interactive and project-driven)
  • Conducting daily individual and small-group coaching sessions where you assess each student's performance in adaptive learning platforms (via Coachbot analytics), establish objectives, and drive them toward 100% weekly goal achievement
  • Overseeing and scoring Test2Pass assessments to verify students have genuinely mastered each life skill, not merely attended
  • Adjusting your coaching approach across a broad developmental spectrum, from Pre-K learners requiring high energy and physical activity to 8th graders needing direct conversations and accountability
  • Cultivating authentic connections with each student so they trust you sufficiently to receive coaching through obstacles, distractions, and moments of uncertainty

What you will NOT be doing

  • Teaching traditional academic content or delivering lectures (students master core subjects via adaptive apps, independent of your instruction)
  • Creating lesson plans or developing curriculum independently (Alpha supplies life skills playbooks; your responsibility is to execute them with energy and narrative skill)
  • Handling parent communications or administrative duties (Campus Leads manage these areas; you remain concentrated on student coaching)
  • Evaluating homework assignments or preparing students for standardized tests (these elements do not exist in this model)
  • Operating independently (you function within a campus team alongside Lead Guides, Campus Leads, and colleagues who exchange feedback and maintain mutual accountability)

Key responsibilities

Guarantee that every student in your cohort develops a genuine love for school, achieves mastery of critical life skills, and completes 100% of their academic objectives using adaptive learning technology.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • 3+ years working directly with Pre-K–8 students (in teaching, coaching, counseling, or youth program management capacities)
  • Demonstrated experience motivating or coaching Pre-K–8 students toward academic, behavioral, or extracurricular objectives, with at least one concrete example you can articulate (including the objective, your actions, and the result)
  • Daily usage of generative AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
  • Ability to work on-site at Alpha's Houston, TX campus (relocation assistance available)
  • Authorization to work legally in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Background in youth sports coaching, camp coordination, or after-school programming where you held direct responsibility for motivating children toward defined objectives
  • History of exceptional personal accomplishment (academic distinctions, competitive sports, or leadership positions demanding consistent excellence)
  • Innate storytelling capability: you can maintain the attention of a room full of 12-year-olds for an hour without escalating your volume
  • Proven success motivating unmotivated or reluctant students and converting them into engaged contributors
