Our core mission is to enable jobseekers from around the globe to prove whether their skills are world-class enough to qualify for elite remote careers. It's extremely difficult to qualify - less than 1% can pass all the tests - but the incentive is incredible: get hired by a Silicon Valley company and earn highly competitive pay. Our 70+ clients are innovative tech companies (mostly American), and have hired over 6,000 of Crossover's best candidates from 130+ countries.

Am I eligible to apply for a job on Crossover?

Crossover has hired from over 130 countries, chances are this includes your one. To apply for most of our global remote roles, all you need is a strong internet connection, the desire to work hard, and a clean background check.

Some of our fastest-growing clients also use Crossover to fill in-person and hybrid employee positions, in addition to their global remote teammates. For obvious reasons, non-remote roles are only available to people who are eligible and willing to work in that location (most often, that means holding US citizenship or a valid work visa). Occasionally a job will have other unique requirements (e.g. a valid teaching license, or a specific qualification/experience).

All these requirements are always clearly outlined in the job description - so be sure to review carefully before applying, and use our easy search filters to hide any jobs you don't want to see.

The only exclusions to our 'global remote' hiring policies are dictated by United States law: we cannot accept applications from residents or citizens of countries embargoed by the US government. This includes: Russia, North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, Sudan, Syria, Belarus, and sanctioned regions of Ukraine.

Additionally, California state regulations prevent its residents from receiving job offers for any position which hires independent contractors not employees. This typically allows California residents to apply for Crossover's 'in-person' and 'hybrid-with-travel' roles, but may exclude them from some 'global remote' positions.

After you apply, you'll complete a series of assessments to prove you've got the aptitude and skills the job requires. The quality standard is very high, so don't be disheartened if it doesn't work out: check the Current Openings page for another suitable role, and you won't need to repeat any of the assessments you've already passed.

How is the pay calculated?

Yes, it really is that high. We require our clients to set the pay upfront based on the global value of the work, and the successful applicant will receive that amount no matter where they live. If they are the best person for the job, it shouldn't matter whether they live in Silicon Valley or Sri Lanka.

Most positions are calculated based on an hourly rate e.g. a $100k role = $50 per hour x 40 hours per week x 50 weeks (assuming 2 weeks of annual leave as a baseline, though self-employed contractors have the autonomy to plan their own vacation schedule).

Why is the pay above-market?

Crossover believes in equal pay for equal work, period. We require our clients to set the pay upfront based on the global value of the work—not the location of the person who ends up being hired to do it. If they are the best, it shouldn't matter whether they are in Silicon Valley or Sri Lanka. Some people say we're crazy because we could underpay people who live in low-GDP countries, but we say they're short-sighted. The long term value of having the best people in the world playing for your team is a far greater competitive advantage.

It's also worth noting that because most positions are 100% remote, our clients reduce overheads like rent and office snacks. And because most positions are independent contracting roles, we recommend the pay be set high enough that the new recruit can take care of everything that an employer would do for an employee (e.g. taxes, healthcare, retirement plan, time off etc), and still be left with more expendable income than they had before.

What are the employee benefits?

The vast majority of roles on Crossover are independent contracting positions. As is standard for any self-employed person, the stated pay is the entire compensation package, and contractors are responsible for handling anything that an employer would do for employees (e.g. taxes, equipment, vacation time and health insurance). One of the main reasons that Crossover jobs typically pay a lot more than local jobs is to overcompensate for this; so the pay is still higher even after these deductions.

WorkSmart is time management and productivity tool created by Crossover. It offers you and your manager complete transparency. It also helps you measure your progress and what it takes to reach your targets. Teams use WorkSmart to collaborate on how to best reach their goals, measuring what works by analyzing the feedback that WorkSmart provides.

Do Crossover contractors receive benefits like annual leave and healthcare?

We factor the cost of benefits like paid vacation and healthcare into the total pay package, which is one of the reasons that Crossover roles typically pay above-market rates. As contractors, our partners are free to make their own decisions around which local healthcare coverage is best for their needs. Our clients’ leave policies for contractors tend to be very flexible and it is often possible to take time off at short notice, provided work is under control.

Do you hire employees or independent contractors?

Accepted Answer

Most positions are independent contractors. This is the only way to work with the top people all over the world – regardless of which countries they’re eligible to be employed in. We identify the top talent in the world and give them the opportunity to contract their services to the hiring company.

It's sometimes possible for US residents to be onboarded as employees at the discretion of the hiring company. These rare instances will be noted in the FAQs on the job description page, but generally it's safest to assume that any Crossover job offer will be extended on a self-employed contract basis.
