Spatial Design Specialist   $100,000 USD/year

Description

You enter a room and immediately sense whether it's been thoughtfully designed or merely assembled. The quality of light, the arrangement of furniture, visible cables, seating configuration, and overall atmosphere register instantly—and once you see a flaw, you can't ignore it. If you're motivated to establish what a high-performance school should look and feel like, this role offers that opportunity.

2 Hour Learning is creating AI-powered private schools where students complete core academics in two hours daily, dedicating afternoons to life skills and passion-based learning. As we expand campuses nationwide, our physical spaces must reflect our mission: composed, deliberate, unconventional, and unquestionably premium. This position establishes that benchmark and ensures it scales consistently across all locations.

You will develop the design vision, convert it into floor plans that depart from traditional classroom layouts, and document standards to prevent brand inconsistency during growth. This is neither a vendor coordination position nor a facilities management role. It requires refined taste, rapid execution, practical problem-solving, and direct impact.

If you possess the discernment to establish a new category and the efficiency to deliver without compromising quality, we want to speak with you.

What you will be doing

  • Developing campus design vision packages (philosophy, mood boards, material selections, lighting characteristics, furniture guidance) that convey premium quality and avoid conventional school aesthetics
  • Generating detailed floor plans that support adaptable learning zones, efficient circulation, and coherent lighting and environmental principles
  • Establishing and sustaining design standards and boundaries that ensure every campus remains aligned yet flexible enough to accommodate varying floor plans
  • Executing rapid improvement cycles on operational campuses by identifying refinement opportunities and creating prioritized action lists that enhance finish quality without impacting opening schedules

What you will NOT be doing

  • Coordinating vendors, sourcing contractors, or handling procurement processes
  • Supervising construction, maintenance activities, or executive-level facilities management
  • Creating attractive but generic private school interiors featuring bright primary colors and institutional materials
  • Pursuing perfection in ways that compromise launch schedules

Key responsibilities

This position ensures every campus opens and develops with a category-defining, premium, unconventional physical environment that maintains consistency across scale.

Candidate requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in interior, spatial, environmental, or experiential design
  • Portfolio demonstrating premium physical environments (e.g., hospitality, luxury residential, boutique commercial, cruise ship, or experiential)
  • Demonstrated capability to independently develop mood boards and comprehensive concept direction for spaces
  • Demonstrated capability to produce spatial layouts that enhance flow, density, and user experience
  • Strong understanding of materials and lighting (finishes, texture, lighting tone, and their emotional impact)
  • Exceptional aesthetic judgment supported by clear evidence of restraint, proportion, and attention to detail
  • Comfort with AI tools or strong track record of quickly adopting emerging design technologies
  • Authorization to work in the United States in a hybrid arrangement requiring 50–70% travel to campuses

Nice to have

  • Background designing scalable multi-location environments with established standards and templates
  • Background designing unconventional learning, community, or wellness environments with adaptable seating configurations
  • Proficient rapid visualization/rendering capabilities that accelerate concept iteration and decision processes
