Outdoor Education Coach   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-campus position in Dripping Springs (greater Austin), TX
  • $100,000 annual compensation, disbursed weekly. Full health, dental, and vision coverage from day one
  • Relocating for this role? Support is available

Waypoint Academy is redefining education by swapping traditional lectures for adventure-driven life skills and AI-powered personalized academics. Students don't remain seated while an instructor talks—they develop public speaking skills outdoors, cultivate leadership through collaborative challenges, and progress at twice the typical pace using tailored software.

This role is not conventional teaching. You will coach K-12 students toward unlocking their capabilities via outdoor workshops and motivational goal-setting sessions. You will facilitate nature-based experiences that cultivate tangible skills (concentration, communication, collaboration), rather than deliver standard curriculum. High-performing individuals who envision a radically transformed school model excel in this environment. You will witness students evolve from hesitant learners into self-assured achievers—measurably and in real time.

Dripping Springs provides Hill Country scenery just 30 minutes from Austin's technology hub, live music venues, and culinary scene. Over 300 sunny days annually, proximity to Barton Springs, and year-round outdoor recreation.

Coach the transformation. Lead the experience. Apply today.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating 1-hour outdoor life-skills workshops (public speaking, concentration, leadership, collaboration) via nature-based challenges and adventure-oriented activities
  • Conducting brief, results-driven motivational sessions where you guide students toward achieving academic targets using adaptive software
  • Animating curriculum with narrative, personalization, and dynamic energy that sustains K-12 student engagement
  • Implementing safety protocols and outdoor decision-making (route selection, weather assessment, equipment checks, Leave No Trace principles) according to Waypoint's field standards
  • Evaluating skill acquisition where students demonstrate their ability to apply the life skill in practical scenarios
  • Maintaining rigorous standards of excellence while serving as an approachable, motivating role model students genuinely respect

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any field
  • At least 3 years of experience working with K-12 students in educational, camp, coaching, or outdoor program settings
  • Documented history of high achievement (academic, athletic, or professional)
  • Strong public speaker capable of energizing and maintaining attention across large student groups, both indoors and outdoors
  • Innate capacity to connect with K-12 learners, their interests, and culture—not as a peer but as a positive role model who challenges them to develop
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
  • Readiness to work on-site at Waypoint Academy's campus in Dripping Springs, TX (Austin area)

Nice to have

  • First aid or wilderness safety certification
