Youth Development Specialist   $100,000 USD/year

Description

Many educators waste time battling bureaucracy. Preparing lesson plans that no one reviews. Enduring endless faculty meetings that accomplish nothing. You realized long ago that wasn't the real work. The real work is the student sitting in front of you.

At Alpha, academic instruction is handled by software. Adaptive applications guide each student through content at their individual pace. No traditional lectures, no assigned homework, no grading papers. This structure allows you to focus on what genuinely transforms lives: facilitating life skill workshops where high schoolers develop public speaking abilities, concentration, and feedback exchange skills, then providing one-on-one coaching to maintain their motivation and achieve learning milestones. Half your time is spent facilitating group sessions. The other half involves working directly with individual students, leveraging Coachbot data to pinpoint exactly where obstacles exist and why.

Students will complete a mastery-based assessment following each workshop. Over 90% should provide positive ratings of your instruction. 100% should demonstrate progress in their applications. These aren't stretch goals; they define the standard. Maintaining high expectations demonstrates your confidence in their capabilities. Throughout this process, you'll develop expertise in creating workshops that teenagers actively seek out, mastering advanced learning software, and establishing meaningful relationships with students and families. Our Brownsville campus is located adjacent to SpaceX. Where educational innovation meets aerospace exploration, you'll deliver on Alpha's fundamental commitment: students who are engaged, learn at double speed, and acquire genuinely valuable skills. If you've been searching for a school that operates according to your vision of what education should be, you've found it.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skill workshops with high school students covering topics such as public speaking, concentration, and feedback skills, followed by mastery measurement through structured Test2Pass assessments
  • Conducting daily motivation sessions that utilize Coachbot analytics to engage individual students, determine learning app obstacles, and help them overcome resistance
  • Collaborating with students to design personalized motivational approaches, including reward systems and incentives that encourage self-directed advancement in academic apps
  • Examining curriculum and lesson plans prior to each session, then adjusting your delivery approach based on student engagement and energy

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering academic content. Math, reading, and all other subjects are managed by software.
  • Overseeing school operations or supervising staff. No budget responsibilities, no recruitment duties, no operational meetings; your complete attention is on your student cohort.
  • Enforcing discipline through conventional authority structures. No detention assignments, no suspension processes, no "because I said so" reasoning. You rely on logic and positive reinforcement to cultivate a respectful, energized learning environment.

Key responsibilities

Develop a cohort of high school students who are enthusiastic about school, learn at 2x speed through adaptive software, and exhibit mastery of practical life skills.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any subject
  • 3+ years of experience working directly with high school students (ages 13-18)
  • Willing to work in-person in Oklahoma City, OK (relocation assistance available)
  • Legal right to work in the US

Nice to have

  • Experience as an athletic coach, camp counselor, or youth program coordinator who has inspired teenagers in non-traditional classroom settings
  • Demonstrated success guiding groups toward quantifiable objectives (completion rates, performance benchmarks, behavior change)
  • Familiarity with adaptive learning platforms or educational technology tools
  • Narrative skills that capture and maintain teenage attention, delivered with cultural sensitivity and authenticity
