Youth Development Specialist   $100,000 USD/year

Description

Most educators burn energy battling bureaucracy. Drafting lesson plans no one will review. Enduring staff meetings that produce no results. You realized long ago that wasn't the real work. The real work is the student sitting in front of you.

At Alpha, academics are delivered through software. Adaptive applications guide each learner through subjects at an individualized pace. No traditional lectures, no assigned homework, no tests to grade. This model frees you to focus on what genuinely transforms lives: facilitating life skill workshops where high schoolers develop public speaking, concentration, and feedback skills, then providing one-on-one coaching to sustain their motivation and help them reach learning milestones. Half your time is spent leading group sessions. The other half is spent in direct conversation with a student, analyzing their Coachbot data to pinpoint exactly where they're encountering obstacles and why.

Students will complete a mastery-based assessment following each workshop. 90%+ should provide strong ratings. 100% should demonstrate progress in their applications. These aren't stretch goals; they define the standard. Maintaining high expectations is how you communicate your belief in their potential. In the process, you'll develop expertise in creating workshops teenagers are eager to attend, mastering advanced learning software, and forming enduring relationships with students and their families. Our Brownsville campus is located adjacent to SpaceX. The cutting edge of education meets the cutting edge of space exploration, and you'll be the person fulfilling Alpha's central promise: students who enjoy school, learn twice as quickly, and acquire skills that truly matter. If you've been searching for a school that operates the way you believe schools should operate, this is it.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skill workshops for high school students covering subjects like public speaking, concentration, and giving and receiving feedback, followed by evaluating mastery via a structured Test2Pass assessment
  • Conducting daily motivation sessions that leverage Coachbot analytics to engage with individual students, determine where they're encountering difficulty in their learning apps, and help them overcome obstacles
  • Developing personalized motivational approaches with students, including reward systems and incentives that encourage self-directed advancement in their academic applications
  • Examining curriculum and lesson plans prior to each session, then adjusting your approach based on your assessment of student engagement and understanding

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering instruction in academic subjects. Software manages math, reading, and all other core content.
  • Overseeing school operations or supervising staff. No budget responsibilities, no personnel decisions, no administrative meetings; your sole priority is your student cohort.
  • Enforcing discipline through conventional authority. No detentions, no suspensions, no "because I said so." You rely on reasoning and positive reinforcement to create a respectful, energetic learning environment.

Key responsibilities

Develop a cohort of high school students who enjoy school, learn 2x faster through adaptive software, and achieve mastery of practical life skills.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any subject
  • 3+ years of experience working directly with high school students (ages 13-18)
  • Willing to work in-person in Oklahoma City, OK (relocation assistance available)
  • Legal right to work in the US

Nice to have

  • Experience as an athletic coach, camp counselor, or youth program leader who has inspired teenagers in non-traditional classroom settings
  • Demonstrated success guiding groups toward quantifiable objectives (completion rates, performance benchmarks, behavior change)
  • Familiarity with adaptive learning platforms or educational technology tools
  • Ability to tell stories that capture and maintain teenage attention, delivered with cultural sensitivity and authenticity
