Life Skills Coach   $100,000 USD/year

Description

Many educators spend their careers resisting bureaucracy. They draft lesson plans no one references. They endure faculty meetings that produce no change. You recognized long ago that the real work is the student sitting across from you.

At Alpha, academic instruction is managed by software. Adaptive applications guide each learner through content at an individualized pace. No lectures, no homework, no grading. This liberates you to focus on work that transforms outcomes: facilitating life skills workshops where adolescents develop public speaking ability, attention management, and feedback literacy, followed by individual coaching sessions to maintain motivation and achieve learning milestones. You'll spend half your time facilitating group sessions. The other half involves one-on-one meetings with students, using Coachbot analytics to diagnose precisely where they're encountering barriers and why.

Students complete a mastery-based evaluation following each workshop. Over 90% should provide positive ratings. 100% should demonstrate progress in their applications. These are not aspirational targets; they define the standard. Maintaining high expectations is how you demonstrate belief in students' capacity. In this role, you'll develop expertise in creating workshops that engage teenagers deeply, mastering advanced learning technology, and forming enduring relationships with students and families. Our Brownsville campus is located adjacent to SpaceX. The leading edge of education intersects with the leading edge of space innovation, and you'll deliver on Alpha's central commitment: students who are passionate about school, learn at double speed, and acquire capabilities that truly count. If you've been searching for a school that operates according to your educational philosophy, you've found it.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for high school students covering subjects such as public speaking, attention management, and feedback exchange, followed by mastery evaluation through a structured Test2Pass assessment
  • Conducting daily motivation sessions leveraging Coachbot data to engage individual students, diagnose learning application obstacles, and guide them through challenges
  • Co-creating personalized motivational approaches with students, incorporating rewards and incentives that encourage autonomous advancement in academic applications
  • Examining curriculum materials and session plans prior to delivery, then adjusting your approach based on real-time observation of student engagement

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering academic instruction. Software manages mathematics, literacy, and all other subject areas.
  • Administering a school or supervising staff. No budget management, no recruitment, no operational responsibilities; your complete attention is on your student cohort.
  • Enforcing discipline through conventional authority structures. No detention assignments, no expulsions, no "because I said so." You employ reasoning and affirmative reinforcement to create a respectful, energized culture.

Key responsibilities

Develop a cohort of high school students who are enthusiastic about school, achieve 2x accelerated learning through adaptive software, and exhibit mastery of practical life skills.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any subject
  • 3+ years of experience working directly with high school students (ages 13-18)
  • Willing to work in-person in Oklahoma City, OK (relocation assistance available)
  • Legal right to work in the US

Nice to have

  • Experience as an athletic coach, camp counselor, or youth program coordinator who has inspired teenagers in non-classroom settings
  • Demonstrated success guiding groups toward quantifiable objectives (completion metrics, performance standards, behavioral transformation)
  • Familiarity with adaptive learning platforms or educational technology solutions
  • Narrative skills that capture and maintain teenage audiences' focus, delivered with cultural sensitivity and authenticity
